I loved you before I even had the guts
And I found you pressed between the pages
Of hopelessness and ruts.
As that old song told us to shut up and dance
Our feet couldn’t keep up with the expectations
Of being young and entranced.
In the middle of resentment and fixation
Overlooked sparks drove us to disrepair
And the damage drowned our reputation.
‘What do you mean?’ became our anthem
And lies became as commonplace as breathing
The words ‘I love you’, I just wished sometimes you meant them.
I stuck by you through everything and more
It felt like the whole world versus us
But it turned out you were against me too, what stacked odds to endure.
‘Seems things are more complicated than you let on’
The statement tumbled from an innocent mouth
‘I guess I forget’ I reply, apathetic responses for what I've done.
Our time finally ran out on a bright sunny day
All the monsters had no where to hide anymore
And we couldn’t keep the inevitability at bay.
