I wasn’t asking for too much
Just more than you could provide.
I wish I’d seen the ending credits
Before the change in tide.
The ocean washed it all away
I loved, I loved and I lost.
I'd been dreaming about that sunset
But never considered the cost.
The whispers and the echoes
Of words spoken in past lives.
I can see the edges blurring
Of the real and the revised.
Throw the bottle in the waves
And hope the message gets lost at sea.
It says ‘be back soon’
Whenever that may be.
Days turn into weeks and months
And waves, they crash and break.
Nothing's ever as good as you remember,
Everything took fifty takes.
The fickle tide turns, and changes again
Bringing the words right back to my feet.
See I loved and I loved and I loved and I lost
But in the end all I needed was me.
